Sound and microphone systems for the hearing room
In a hearing room everything turns on intelligibility. Whoever speaks has to be audible to the judge, to the opposing party, to the clerk and often to the public gallery too, without feedback, and without private exchanges at the table being picked up unintentionally. We match the system to the room and work with directional microphones that capture only what is intended. In rooms with a lot of glass, high ceilings and hard floors, in court buildings the rule rather than the exception, acoustics are the real problem, and there placement and tuning solve more than extra power does. For hard-of-hearing attendees we install a hearing loop, so they can follow the hearing through their own hearing aid.
Discussion systems for judges, counsel and parties
At a hearing with many attendees, everyone gets their own discussion unit with a talk button and a light showing who has the floor. The chair keeps control: they can give the floor, close a microphone and limit how many are open at once, so nobody talks over anyone else and any recording stays usable. Units can carry name displays, and where it is wanted we add a voting function for panels that take decisions on the spot. We supply the systems temporarily, for a single hearing or a series, and install them permanently where a room works with them as a matter of course.
Vision, video links and recording
Not everyone can or may attend in person. A witness abroad, a detained defendant, an expert with a full diary: a secure video link brings them in without them entering the room, on a screen visible to everyone involved and with sound running through the room system rather than a laptop speaker. For evidence, documents and recorded material we position screens so that the judge, the parties and the clerk see the same thing. And where recording is permitted we capture the hearing with cameras and a separate audio recording, in a format usable for the record. What is recorded, who receives the recording and how long it is kept, we set out with you in writing beforehand.
Working in a secure environment
A court building does not let just anyone in, and rightly so. Our technicians hold a certificate of conduct and are used to advance screening, escorted access and agreements about what does and does not leave the room. Personal data involved in a recording or a link we process in line with GDPR: we record where a recording is held, who can reach it and when it is deleted. On the day our technician is present but not conspicuously so, sitting behind the equipment, stepping in when needed and otherwise letting the hearing take its course.
