To create an inclusive environment, it’s important to also take into account people who are hard of hearing. Did you know that the Netherlands is home to 1.5 million deaf and hard of hearing people? That’s why, during your event, providing the right facilities is far from a luxury—it’s essential. The same applies to public spaces, museums, gyms, hospitals, offices, city halls, trade fairs, and amusement parks—good sound for everyone is important for both safety and experience.

That’s why it’s important to provide facilities that meet the standard guidelines for the hard of hearing. We offer advice, installation, and temporary rental of hearing loops or Auracast systems.

But it goes beyond just amplifying audio for the deaf and hard of hearing. At every stage of life, communication and good hearing health connect us with each other, our communities, and the world. While current assistive listening technologies(ALTs)—such as inductive loops (hearing loops)—have brought great benefits to people with hearing loss, they face several challenges that limit their usability, such as poor quality, high costs, and lack of privacy.

What is a hearing loop and how does it work?

A hearing loop, also called an induction loop or audio frequency induction loop system, is a wire loop laid around the perimeter of a room and driven by a dedicated amplifier. The loop generates a magnetic field that delivers the sound from the audio system directly to a hearing aid or implant switched to the T setting. The main benefit is that the listener hears only the source signal, without the reverberation, chatter and background noise of the room, which greatly improves intelligibility. No additional device is needed and users do not have to identify themselves, so the system works without any barrier in churches, theatres, council chambers, service desks and meeting rooms.

What is Auracast, and how does it differ from a hearing loop?

Auracast is a broadcast feature within the new Bluetooth LE Audio standard, where a transmitter sends audio wirelessly to an unlimited number of receivers. Listeners select a channel themselves, much like choosing a wi-fi network, and listen through modern hearing aids, earbuds or loaned receivers. Unlike a hearing loop, no wire has to be installed in the floor or along the walls, and multiple channels can run side by side, for example for different languages or rooms. The trade-off is that listeners need equipment that supports Auracast and must actively select the channel.

Will Auracast replace hearing loops?

Auracast will keep growing, but for the time being the two systems exist alongside each other. The reason is straightforward: millions of hearing aids in use have only a T coil and no LE Audio support, and those devices will remain in service for years. A hearing loop also works without the user having to configure or pair anything, which is a real advantage for older visitors. New projects therefore often combine the two, keeping the existing loop in place and adding Auracast as a further provision.

What is a silent disco and what is it used for?

At a silent disco, guests listen through wireless headphones instead of loudspeakers in the room. The headphones usually offer two or three channels, so several DJs or music styles can run at once and everyone chooses their own, including their own volume. It is used at parties and festivals, but also at corporate events, silent yoga, guided tours and workshops where several programmes share one space. The main practical reason is noise: because almost no sound enters the room, events can run longer at venues with strict noise limits or housing nearby.

What should be considered during installation and use?

Hearing loops are covered by the international standard IEC 60118-4, which sets requirements for field strength, even coverage and background noise; a proper installation is therefore measured after completion and documented in a report. Metal in floors, reinforcement and cable trays can weaken the field, so the loop design and workmanship largely determine the result, and the international symbol at the entrance tells visitors the facility is available. For Auracast, transmitter coverage and clear instructions on selecting the channel matter most, optionally with loan receivers for visitors without suitable hearing aids. For silent disco, the practicalities count: enough charged headphones plus spares, a hand-out and collection point, hygienic ear pads, and a check that transmitter coverage reaches the whole space.
