Televic Unite: One wireless system for guided tours, interpreting, and accessible audio

The Televic Unite system is a digital wireless communication system that performs effectively in many different situations. While most audio equipment is built for a single purpose, Unite can be used for guided tours, wireless presentations, interpreting, accessible audio for people with disabilities, and education. This makes the system appealing to anyone who deals with varying situations and doesn't want to purchase or rent separate equipment for every application.

In this blog, we explain how the Televic Unite system works, its potential applications, and what to consider in practice. This will give you a clear picture of what this system can mean for your organization or event.

What is the Televic Unite system?

Unite is a wireless platform that connects people, even across greater distances, language barriers, or in cases of sensory impairment. The system consists of transmitters and receivers in the form of bodypacks and handheld devices, supplemented by access points, chargers, and accompanying software. The transmitters and receivers communicate wirelessly, with some devices capable of both transmitting and receiving.

The core of the system is the DECT standard. This is the same technology used in cordless phones and is permitted almost everywhere worldwide without registration or licensing fees. In practice, this means you don't have to worry about frequencies or permits. The system automatically manages frequency selection and self-corrects in case of interference. This is a major advantage for rentals and international events, as frequency regulations vary by country.

Key applications

Unite's strong point is its versatility. Below, we highlight the most common applications.

Guided tours

During factory tours, museum visits, or at tourist attractions, it's often difficult for everyone to hear clearly. A tour guide with a Unite transmitter is clearly heard by all participants, even in a noisy factory hall. Because the system supports two-way communication, participants can also ask questions. Additionally, you can add a second or third guide, for example, for groups being guided in different languages.

Wireless presentations

Unite can be used as a wireless microphone for presentations, meetings, conferences, and in education. Up to four wireless microphones can operate simultaneously via the Unite Access Point. This gives speakers freedom of movement without cables running across the room.

Interpreting and language distribution

For multilingual meetings, Unite functions as an interpreting and language distribution system. The audience tunes into the channel of their desired language and listens in their preferred language. The system supports up to 32 parallel groups or languages; in the United States, Canada, and Japan, this is 16. A notable reference from Televic is a conference venue in India where the Unite interpreting system replaced thirty infrared transmitters with just two access points.

Accessible audio and inclusion

Unite can be used for audio description for the blind and visually impaired, and for assistive listening for the hard of hearing. With the IL 200 induction loop, a configuration is possible that complies with current standards for hearing loop systems. This is a valuable feature for governments, theaters, and educational institutions committed to accessibility.

The technology behind Unite

Several technical features explain why Unite performs reliably in so many situations.

The system transmits with a 14 kHz bandwidth and digital signal processing, ensuring excellent speech intelligibility and immunity to background noise. Up to three people can speak simultaneously within a group with an unlimited number of listeners. The range extends up to 300 meters in an open environment, though on-site conditions may affect the actual range.

Security is well-managed through AES-256 encryption with additional individual encryption, making the system eavesdropping-proof. This makes Unite suitable for confidential meetings where sensitive information is shared. Furthermore, various audio interfaces are available, such as USB, analog, Bluetooth, and Dante, allowing audio to be easily input or recorded.

Intelligent battery management ensures a long operating time and short charging time. With the free Unite Manager PC software, you can centrally manage the system: check charging status, configure devices, and automatically perform firmware updates via the cockpit chargers as soon as devices are placed in them.

What to consider in practice?

When choosing wireless communication, context is paramount. A factory tour has different requirements than a multilingual conference or a theater performance with audio description. It's important to determine in advance how many groups or languages need to be active simultaneously, whether two-way communication is required, and what the distance between the transmitter and receivers is.

The location also plays a role. Thick concrete walls, metal structures, or a lot of competing wireless equipment can affect the range. A thorough inventory and, if necessary, an on-site test will prevent surprises during the event. For those with little experience, it's beneficial to involve an AV partner to help determine the correct configuration and the number of access points and receivers required.

Finally

The Televic Unite system is appealing because it unifies many different applications within a single platform. From tours and wireless presentations to interpreting and accessible audio, it consistently delivers clear and reliable sound, without the hassle of licenses or frequencies. For organizations facing diverse situations, this translates to flexibility and a lower barrier to inclusion for everyone.
